Alfa Romeo To Release Five New Models Before 2026
Finally, it appears that Alfa Romeo is getting the recognition it deserves. For the bedraggled Italian marque, CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato has a full schedule ahead of him, with new model debuts every year until 2026 on the horizon. The reveal was made in an interview with Automotive News Europe and later confirmed by a Stellantis spokesperson, ensuring this juicy morsel of information is as genuine as it gets.
The Tonale, a small crossover previewed in March 2019 at the Geneva Motor Show, will be the first to lead the way. It was set to go into production by the end of this year, but Imparato wanted better performance from the plug-in hybrid mechanism, so it had to be delayed by a few months. Alfa Romeo’s president is hoping that the electrified Tonale will be sportier than the Peugeot 3008 PHEV, so engineers are putting out full efforts to satisfy him.
The Tonale is expected to make its worldwide debut in March 2022, with sales beginning in Italy the following June. The names of the remaining four new cars have not been revealed, but one of them is said to be a subcompact crossover called Brennero paired with the Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade replacements.
We understand that Alfa has alternative plans in mind, and one of the cancelled GTV or 8C models would be ideal. Enthusiasts would appreciate a more affordable coupe to replace the 4C’s absence. I, for one, would be pleased to see a new wagon, but it’s just wishful thinking at this time.
Imparato also stated that by 2027, every new vehicle the company will release would be an electric. Lancia likewise has a similar strategy of electrification, with plans to manufacture zero-emissions cars only starting in 2026. The rebirth of the Delta was confirmed this past week for our era of electric vehicles.
