The outside of a car, it’s performance, and it’s reliability are only a few of the many aspects of a car you look at when buying one. One of the most important aspects is of course, where you sit. You spend the majority of your time looking at the inside of your car from the driver’s seat, so to drive a car almost everyday, it certainly helps if you like how it looks.
So, using that theme, let’s discuss five of the best car interiors of all time.
5. Mini Cooper
While it’s not an overly expensive car compared to some on this list, it boasts an interior that has evolved from its humble beginnings. The centre screen has been maintained and the switchgear looks and feels premium. It also gives you the tiniest whiff of being in a plane’s cockpit which we like a lot.
4. Maserati Boomerang
This concept car was the work of Giorgetto Giugiaro and was revealed in 1971. It plays on an almost steampunk theme with a steering wheel integrated straight into the protruding dashboard. It made waves in the motoring community and was sold at an auction in 2015 for nearly £3million.
3. Pagani Huayra
Pagani are known for their batshit crazy designs. The Zonda followed this trend, too, but it’s hard to ignore the immense styling that went into the Huayra. The open gearstick mechanism is an eye-full, as is the milled titanium dotted around the cockpit. And when you’re tired of leather and metals, you can admire the weave in the dollops of carbon fibre.
2. Citroen DS
Citroen has always impressed us (minus that Cactus thing that looked like someone had over-ordered on sound proofing). They tended to push boundaries in both technology and styling, and therefore, one of their interiors had to make the cut. And which else than the DS. It looked weird and it drove weirdly, but it was cool and comfortable and you can’t beat their passion for being different.
1. McLaren F1
We chose this not because of its level of comfort or technology. It’s not overly nice to look at compared to other cars either. But there is one thing that pulled this apart from the rest. That is of course its central driving position. The whole car is designed around the driver. It’s rumoured that the seat was here just so they could get the pedals in the right place. Whatever the reason, we’re thankful for it!
