2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8: Design Flaw Already Spotted By Customers

It really hasn’t been long since the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette C8 started being rolled out to lucky buyers, but already an issue has been spotted by an owner of the car. This design flaw was posted to a Corvette forum where we found it.

Owner Seth Lewis found a huge chip in his Arctic White paint on his new C8 on the door by the front fender panel. On seeing this, he moved closer to have a more detailed look at what seemed to be a large rock chip, and realised that it wasn’t a chip at all.

Lewis found that it was in fact caused by a screw holding the wheel well liner that was sticking out too far. This was rubbing on the door as it was being opened and closed, damaging the paint.

Lewis found the damage after an oil change at 500 miles, where he took a number of photos and reported it to the forum questioning whether others were finding similar issues. Another owner on the forum who goes by the name of ‘Chunky’, claimed his car was suffering from the same problem.

CarBuzz reached out to GM to ask about this problem. They replied with the following:

“We are aware of the issue that has been reported by a few customers and are working with them and their dealers to have the issue resolved as soon as possible in the current environment.”

Lewis said this in regards to the problems he’s having with his C8:

 “It’s called a mistake. It’s either a design problem or the assembler used the wrong screw and/or over torqued it. Engineers have to try and account for everything, including an owner who slams his door open, or a gorilla on the assembly line.”
