Jeremy Clarkson Reveals One of his Biggest Regret from Top Gear

In an interview with Radio Times, Jeremy Clarkson looked back at all the controversies he was involved in and talked about one in particular that he got wrong.

From 2002 through 2015, Clarkson has been involved in many controversies involving stereotypes and borderline racism which was broadcasted to the 6 million weekly viewers. To be honest here, there really is no excuse for such behavior, but history has shown that if you want to be great, you will have to test the limits of yourself and/or your audience.

Earlier in the interview, Clarkson talked about his regret for the comments he made in 2011 about Mexican cars and people.

“Mexican cars would share the same characteristics: “lazy, feckless, flatulent, overweight, leaning against a fence asleep looking at a cactus with a blanket with a hole in the middle on as a coat”.

James May would add to the comments by claiming that Mexican food was like “like sick with cheese on it.”

Clarkson seemed to have genuine remorse about his comments and revealed that he apologised personally to the Mexican ambassador.

“Genuinely, if I look back at all the Top Gear Wikipedia section marked ‘controversy’, then Mexico is the one where we definitely got it wrong,” he said.

“I went to see the Mexican ambassador and apologised to him. I didn’t have to, the Beeb didn’t tell me to, but it was out of order… So we went down and said we were really sorry and got absolutely paralytic on tequila with him.

“That was a good day.”

I’m sure if truly pressed, there would be a few more regrets, but Jeremy Clarkson is starting to show that he does have a conscience and as all older people know, mistakes happen. It’s learning from them that is the most important thing.
