Matt LeBlanc says ‘How You Doin’ to a New Top Gear Contract

According to the Mirror, the No. 2 host last year on Top Gear has just landed himself a two-year deal worth approximately $2.5M for a total of about 12-16 episodes.

Matt LeBlanc really put himself in a great position here, not committing too early and letting the BBC squirm to figure out how to handle the Chris Evans departure. The real kicker in the deal was the untimely loss of another BBC hit show, the Great British Bake Off to a rival in the UK.

The beebs were desperate for talent as they even offered the Top Gear co-hosting job to GBBO host, Paul Hollywood. It doesn’t look like Hollywood took up the offer.

LeBlanc’s patience won out and along with the huge pay day, he also was able to negotiate a filming schedule that would also work around sitcom work in Los Angeles.

Top Gear A.C. (After Clarkson) take two will include LeBlanc, Chris Harris and Rory Reid with regular appearances by Eddie Jordan, Sabine Schmitz and the Stig.

It’s going to be interesting to see if this new core group can stop the slide in ratings Chris Evans helped accelerate last season.
