This is the first of a two-part special called, The Beach (Buggy) Boys in which Andy Wilman challenges Clarkson, Hammond and May to cross Namibia in three buggies. Wilman insists that buggies are terrible so it’s up to the hosts to prove him wrong.

Clarkson, Hammond and May each produce a Buggy to their personal specification with the challenge to drive 1,000 miles across Namibia’s Skeleton Coast.

The presenters spend 36 hors driving up and down the coast only to set up camp almost where they started. They spend the night by a shipwreck of Eduard Bohlen.

The next day they venture into the Namibian desert, traversing massive dunes and dangerous drops before finally meeting a road.

This doesn’t last long however, as Clarkson’s Buggy breaks down after a short on-road stint with overheating issues. Hammond and May leave him stranded and carry on to Windhoek where they have a cold beer.
