Clarkson, Hammond and May: DRIVETRIBE is for Men AND Women

In a recent interview with the Press Association, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May were questioned about their newest venture, the social media networking site for automotive enthusiasts, DRIVETRIBE.

During the interview, Jeremy was asked about the inclusion of women into the site.

“One of the areas we have never gone into is men and women, everybody always said we did but we never did and we won’t on this.”

“I have been very heartened by the amount of girl tribes there are, there are loads and loads of girls’ tribes…I hate all-male company, I’ve never been on a stag night for that reason, I just can’t be doing with all-male company, there is nothing more boring so I’m delighted to see it’s a mix.”

Richard Hammond went on to elaborate in regards to not only women but other groups which may be considered a minority on the site saying

“The whole thing is an exercise in inclusivity, that is the point of it. To go after that self-consciously would be a mistake, it’s patronizing, it’s dangerous if you set that up with cynicism and science it can fall down, whereas this will just happen.”

James May also injected how he felt about the subject. James said

“We have never looked at gender statistics, I don’t even know if we could. I’m sure you can because you can look at everything but why would we worry about that? It’s open to everybody.”

It seems that the trio is not only passionate about cars, but passionate about including everyone who has an interest in the automotive world, and not excluding anyone, or any particular group. That’s a social network I’m proud to be a part of.

  1. The whole Inclusivity issue had become ridiculously insidious and stale. Women don’t go to auto enthusiast websites in large numbers simply because they go sites more in line with their interests. Is anyone complaining about how few men are on needlework enthusiast sites?

    1. I will have to disagree. As a car enthusiast I used to spend a few hours a day looking thru car sites. Now I spend those same few hours photographing and writing for my two DRIVETRIBE sites (southern drag life and every day machines
It’s not just a man’s world anymore. Ever heard of Courtney or Brittany Force, Shirley Muldowney, or Danica Patrick?
