This Is The All New Land Rover Defender
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the all new Land Rover Defender. Yes, the car that was snatched from our grasp only a few years ago because of it not abiding by current road laws will be returning in only a couple of years time. In 2020, you will be seeing this behemoth in the world’s green lanes and off-road tracks.
Unfortunately Land Rover has told us very little. In fact, they’ve told us pretty much nothing apart from the fact that “Jaguar Land Rover runs a wide range of engineering and technology development programmes,” and that they “can confirm that the Defender programme is progressing well and has reached an exciting stage of its development.”
So thanks for that, Landy.
Obviously however, they’re quite keen to show it off. Not any company would make a car look so menacing underneath its bulky camouflage for it not to be talked about. And despite the British marque not delving into details, we can work a few things out for ourselves.
Straight away from the photos, we can tell that it’s very close to the DC100 concept that was seen years ago before this website had even started. It will stay close to its heritage, and of course we can say with complete confidence that it will be 4-wheel drive.
So while this new Defender has some pretty monstrous boots to fill, I’m adamant that Land Rover will do it right. They’ve proven that they can produce a brand that carries itself with Range Rover, and that this market success can be carried over to Jaguar with the new F and E-Pace. So if anyone is going to produce one of the best 4x4s on the market, it’s going to be them.
