Pininfarina Is Building The Fastest Car In The World: Battista

The Italian coach builder Automobili Pininfarina has promised the world that they’re going to change the horizon of the motoring industry in 2020 by releasing a car that will beat everything on the road. At least, in regards to top speed. In just over a year, they’re going to release what they’re calling the Battista, and it’s going to be the fastest car in the world. Especially as Bugatti have bowed out of the race.

They’re promising 150 units at a price of around $2 – 2.5 million, so the majority of us won’t get the pleasure. But for the few highflying players in the world, this is certainly going to be a car to put in your garage. But it also has a few surprises that will keep the rest of us interested.

For example, it’s going to be fully-electric. And it’s going to be a luxury car. Think Chiron but minus the exhaust note. They also say it will have “extreme levels of technology” and “has the potential to accelerate” to 60 mph in “less than two seconds”. That’s quite a small figure, something that we’ve only really heard from Eon Musk regarding his Tesla Roadster that will at some point be on the road – if were lucky.

While there’s a lot of boasting going on, the company is hesitant to state a top speed. They explain that it will definitely break the 248mph record and, get this, it will have a range of 300 miles.

“This is genuinely a dream come true. My grandfather always had the vision that one day there would be a stand-alone range of Pininfarina-branded cars. This hypercar will boast world-beating performance, technological innovation and of course elegant styling. For me, we simply had to call it Battista. His dream becomes reality today as we link our glorious past with the future of motoring” – Chairman Paolo Pininfarina

Beside the figures, the car looks very Lamborghini-esque but will feature a bespoke monocoque chassis and body panels all made from carbonfibre to keep the cost down. The battery pack will sit aft of the two seats, and the powertrain will consist of four electric motors – one on each wheel. And if you’re yet to believe that Pininfarina will pull this off, then listen to this: Rimac, the makers of the Concept_One, will be partnering in this project and supplying the batteries and powertrain.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
