Fast and Furious Is Back Again With A Hobbs And Shaw Spinoff

I must admit, when I first saw the trailer, I thought it was a joke. Don’t expect any turbo chatter or nitrous here folks, this is entirely a Hobbs and Shaw story. Which a lot of you will think is complete s**t.

So the premise is this: Hobbs and Shaw, previously known from the Fast and Furious films as the two big guys you don’t want to get in a fight with, have been asked to team up again. This time, against a… wait for it… genetically modified bad guy played by Idris Elba. If you thought the Fast and Furious franchise couldn’t get any weirder and blown out, then, you’re wrong. Unfortunately.

So this new bad guy is apparently bulletproof and super strong and… stuff. So he’s basically Superman, but in a movie that was originally supposed to be about cars. Now, let’s keep in mind that this is a spinoff film, so it’s not all about the cars. Saying that, there are a few cool looking stunts thrown into the mess of a story. But where, in a series of film that began with the humble street racer’s life, does Superman fit in? That’s like taking Postman Pat and adding in a few Aliens and Predators.

I must admit, it looks quite funny for us film goers that have the humour of a 12 year old, but it just doesn’t make sense. Paul Walker would be rolling in his grave! And we know for a fact that Tyrese Gibson isn’t so happy about this new type of story.

So, this is the thing. If this was a completely new film, it would be alright. Yet another action film with plenty of CGI and adequate acting – plus Idris who is just spectacular – but a film that would perform well for its genre. But giving it the title of Fast and Furious seems like a money grab. Which it is.

Let me know your thoughts below, but how I wish we could go back to a Mitsubishi Eclipse racing a Mazda RX7.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
