Fast and Furious 9 Has Been Delayed a Year to 2020

The Fast and Furious franchise began as a rather modest take on American car culture. The story revolved around a gang of racers who had tasted the sweet taste of stealing tech like VCRs from the back of trucks. Albeit in a rather unbelievable and far-fetched way. Taking all this into account, though, it still stole our hearts and we couldn’t wait for the next film to be released.

2 Fast 2 Furious is where the films properly gained traction. Brian’s silver and blue Skyline had us racing to our video game consoles to try and recreate the famous decals and body kit so we could be Brian too and be the fastest on the street. Even if it was a street in Need for Speed.

Soon after though, the film became too cheesy for its time of release. Body kits and neons and stickers were only popular in the days of Pimp My Ride, and those days quickly faded. Now, the film has been reduced to a ‘family’ from America saving the world via ridiculous car stunts and CGI. Oh, and The Rock.

Now we hear that the ninth film of the saga has been pushed back a year, and we start to wonder why. Some say there are arguments forming between the cast behind the scenes, and this only spread further when Tyrese Gibson posted this since deleted post on Instagram:

Oh, and this:

Is there going to be a Hobbs spinoff movie? While that will probably save the films from getting too monotonous, are we really bothered about it?

Other sources wonder whether the writers simply have writers’ block. I mean, where would you go after having a rogue submarine smash its way through an ice shelf while cars the size of ants in comparison dodge rocket launchers and bullets? Space? Yes, that’s been said before but, they can’t actually go to space… can they?

So where can they go from here? Let me know in the comments below – I want to see a discussion!

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps.

He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX.
