Richard Hammond Takes Up Flying Again

Did you know Richard Hammond had a pilot license? I always suspected it, but never really bothered to find out if he really did or not. I remember the old Top Gear episode where he and James took to the skies, and James’ pre-flight checks nearly put Hammond to sleep.

After seeing that episode for the first time, I just always assumed it wasn’t something that interested Hammond. However, I was wrong. It turns out that Hamster got his helicopter license back in 2012, and actually owns a second-hand Robinson R44.

It seems that recent accidents and a ton of foreign travel have caused his license to basically be locked away for months, but things may be looking up again for Hammond (no pun intended). It turns out that Hammond had recently re-certified, according to a recent DriveTribe post.

It looks like Hammond took a refresher course at Gloucestershire Airport with Heliflight, who sounds like they went the extra mile to make sure Hammond’s return to the pilot’s seat went as smoothly as possible. Of course one is probably rusty after so much time away, so Hammond left some helpful notes, as you can see above.
