The Grand Tour

The Stig Could Be On The Grand Tour Soon…

After a bit of poking about on the web – I have the most interesting Sunday evenings – I came across the trademark details of the term ‘The Stig’.

Now, before we go any further, you can find them here so you can make up your own mind on the subject, but it’s evident from the details that the BBC have dropped The Stig as of 2017-09-22. So this got me wondering, if Top Gear have dropped the character – a wise move as let’s face it, The Stig didn’t belong with the new presenters – does this mean The Grand Tour can scoop him up in what ever form they want?

This would fit nicely as they have just confirmed that The American is not returning for the second season.

I’m sure this would make many of you viewers very, very happy if the trio would reunite with the mysterious racing driver and make the well-known family whole again, but unfortunately, I doubt that will happen.

I’m sure there would be some sort of legal clause which would still stop The Grand Tour from owning the rights to The Stig, but we can only hope, hey?

What we can at least take from this is that the relationship between Top Gear and The Stig is now over, as is an era alongside it.

Let me know if you want to see The Stig back with the boys on The Grand Tour, or if you think The Stig should die with the death of the Top Gear we know and love.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]

  1. If I was a producer for Top Gear I would hire Jezza, Captain Slow, and The Hamster again because there the only reason the Top Gear Got the views it did.

  2. Its a business. If BBC are not using the Stig, sign a royalty deal where GT, so they get to use the Stig. BBC monetize their asset, appear to have acted Professionally on a global scale, and its an all round win-win.

  3. Even if the Grand Tour can’t own the I.P. of “The Stig” maybe Jezza, Slow, and Hamster can but them and license them to The Grand Tour (much like The Beeb licenses K-9, The Daleks and other vintage Doctor Who baddies.

  4. I think the stig would come back! They have been looking for a driver and what’s better than a good mascot?

  5. I’d love to see The Stig back with the boys, but I bet the BBC will be c*@ts about it and not give up the rights. Just like Adult Swim did with Metalocalypse and Brandon Small.
