This Peel P50 Is On Sale For A Ridiculous Price!
The smallest production car in history, the Peel P50, has emerged in the market and has been given a price tag of £90,000. Did you wince? The P50, originally being sold between 1962 and 1965, had an original price of £199. Taking into account inflation, that’s £3,896 in today’s money.
Saying that, it is a very rare motor with only 50 units ever being made during its lifetime, and only 27 units remaining today. And although it didn’t sell overly well due to its strange, three wheeled design and lack of a reverse gear, it is highly collectible now.
Jake Auerbach, of Canada-based RM Sotheby’s auction house, said: “The Peel P50 is rare, cute, and a guaranteed conversation starter – what more could anyone want?
And he’s right! It’s a great car. One that I would most certainly own if I miraculously won the lottery. Just so I could drive it around my house like Clarkson did around his office.
The auction for this car will be held in Monterey, California, on August 18th. But we shouldn’t be surprised if the going price rises even higher than expected, as the record price for the P50 was set at RM Sotheby’s auction in Florida last year, where it sold for £120,000. That’s a big price for such a small car.
