The Ford Ranger Has Been Reincarnated As A Rally Car

The Ford Ranger was long a staple of the American market if you wanted a small, boring truck that wasn’t nice to drive and was much less reliable than its Japanese brethren. It was about as exciting as Werther’s Originals, but for some reason, people really wanted a new one, so Ford has delivered. And how.

The Ranger is slated to return to the American market as a 2019 model, probably based on the international version that never went out of production. While it likely won’t be very exciting, there’s a whole different story to tell with the Ranger Raptor – the hot version that was just confirmed by Ford’s South African arm.

In the video, we see a rather badly camouflaged Ranger Raptor tearing through the Australian Outback, complete with massive tires, a widened stance, and suspension busier than Larry King’s wedding planner. There also seems to be a whoosh of forced induction present, likely a hint that the Ranger will use one of Ford’s EcoBoost engines, probably the 2.7L V6 so Ford can leave the 3.5L version for the larger F-150 Raptor.

If this turns out to come to the rest of the world, we can’t wait to see how it does. Clarkson will probably like it.
