Behold, The All New TVR Griffith

The last TVR Griffith was built from 1991-2002, a V8 lightweight that was simple and raucous, a typical TVR. It was followed by the Tuscan, Sagaris and Typhon under the ownership of Nikolai Smolenski, but production eventually ended and the company folded after plans were announced to move final assembly to Italy and production dropped to only a small handful of vehicles per week.

Not content to let one of the most famous British car companies of all time go under for good, TVR found new ownership in the unlikely form of video game entrepreneur Les Edgar, who vowed to return TVR to its former glory. After announcing ambitious plans for the company, we finally have a good look at what they plan to do.

The new Griffith was properly announced in July but we had no images and few specs to go off of, with the full reveal being saved for September to celebrate TVR’s 70th anniversary. The new Griffith sports a Cosworth-tuned, 5.0L V8, plucked from a Mustang and making 500 horsepower. This doesn’t sound particularly impressive until you realize that the car weighs only 2,755 lbs.; All this grunt is routed through a real manual gearbox, too.

The new Griffith is every inch a TVR: V8, manual gearbox, very few driver aids, and British through and through. Prices will start at about £90,000 (or $118,000), so it sure isn’t cheap. On top of that, it sadly, won’t be coming to the United States as it would likely be too costly for TVR to engineer it to our government’s taste; but hey, if you really want to get your hands on a Griffith, the old one is 25 years old now, right?

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
