Mike Brewer Calls Edd China A Traitor After He Leaves Wheeler Dealers

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the Wheeler Dealers breakup. In fact, the last piece of information we received was from Edd’s YouTube channel where he states that he is “exhilarated with freedom” and “can’t wait to get cracking on some exciting opportunities that lie ahead”.

This all came about once Wheeler Dealers was taken over by a new production company, Velocity. Edd claimed that they thought the show was too hard to produce, especially his in-depth explanations on how to repair certain parts of vehicles – this being one of the most loved parts, and unique selling points, of the show. Edd explains in his YouTube video:

“…this new direction is not something I am comfortable with as I feel the corners I was being asked to cut compromised the quality of my work and would erode my integrity as well as that of the show, so I have come to the conclusion that my only option is to let Velocity get on with it, without me.”

The public expected there to be a strain on the relationship between Edd China and Wheeler Dealers star Mike Brewer. In reaction to this, Edd China said in his latest YouTube video:

“Is he my favourite person right now? Well, probably not, and I know for sure I’m not his. But that’s okay, we’re adults, we’ll get over ourselves. We’ll get past this, and then, we’ll be fine.”

So, everything’s fine then? Well… no. Not really.

This is a deleted tweet from Mike’s Twitter feed.

Looks like there’s a little more going on behind the cameras, doesn’t it?

Since the breakup of the Wheeler Dealers stars, Mike Brewer has been receiving a lot of hate and even threats. So I would expect him to be angry about the situation, especially as his family have become involved in these threats, too.

Wheeler Dealers will be returning in the Autumn with Mike Brewer alongside the new presenter in the team, Ant Anstead.

Let us know what you think about the situation in the comments below, and share with us your thoughts on what you think the new series might be like.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]

  1. I miss the old show with Ed China as he was the real star of the show, an Ed U Cated man who is well spoken.
I still watch the reruns to start the day, but switch off if it’s a new series with Ant.

  2. it is truely a sad day, to say the least. And whilst I am not a “car buff”, or a “petrol head”, I did find the show Wheeler Dealer’s to be a great watch! I think that Edd’s expertise with the fixing part, and Mike’s showman ship, were perfect foils for each other, and for the show. As for Velocity, and their part in it, all I say is this, “Trust the Yank’s the stuff it all up, and all for a buck”! To the hater’s, I understand your frustration’s, however, directing threats towards Mike and his family, is just WRONG! If you are that upset, go to the horses mouth, as in Velocity, with your dissatisfaction, and not the horses arse, as in Mike! No, I am not calling Mike Brewer a horses arse, I just mean, he didn’t get the final say in how it went down, Velocity are the villain’s in the story! Mike, like any other person, is trying to make a living, nothing more. Edd is standing by his principals, and so he should too! We can all be armchair critics, but at the end of the day, it is their jobs, their way of helping out their families, so they do and decide what they think is best. For that, I commend them both. Let’s just hope that Velocity will not drag the new Wheeler Dealer’s through the mud totally!

  3. All the comments what have been said by the viewers the new series of wheeler and dealers is right you want to see mechanic side of things any one can buy a car on line and know what to look for in buying a car the mechanic side people haven’t a clue ed really shows the viewers how to repair the mechanics of a car engine the new wheeler and dealers is not as detailed as if they still had ed chinna who would detail about the engine and the mechanics ive only watched one show of the new wheeler and dealers its quite bland not really interesting we all want to see the engine side of it and mechanics when things break on the engine

  4. There has been a parting of the ways and Edd has decided to go. This is his own decision and he is a big boy and can look after himself. Personally, I feel that his own principles have triumphed over the cash he would have earned if he had stay on – RESPECT! Mike had decided to stay and he is a big, small boy and can look after himself. Personally, I feel he has made a decision to stay with a show that has worked in the past – I just hope that the new formula is as successful and he has my RESPECT for his decision. Both guys are adults and make decisions that best suit them. The idea that people are miscalling either of the guys, sucks and as for “hate male”, I will not make comment, as the people sending such garbage are not worth it!. People change jobs daily, for their own reasons – That does not make them “bad”, it makes them adults. All the very best to both of the guys and I wish them well in their new projects.

  5. I lost interest when it went over to the states. Become like all the other US shows on cars. Go back to your roots and stick to UK cars….!!!!

  6. who in their right mind makes death threats to a person and his family over a TV show about car repairs?!?!?!?
Take your frustrations out with Velocity production company, who felt the need to ruin a great show and partnership

  7. Wheeler dealers is about 2 guys not one people who give threats out are idiots so what if edd has left its not the end of the world its buissness pure and simple edd did not agree with the new shows way of working and as a adult has moved on ,does that mean Mike has to lose out ,I for one beleive they are both gutted not to be carrying on as a duo and people causing friction is not helping anyone I wish them both sucsess in there new ventures if either party reads this pick up the phone lifes to short

  8. Edd had class about it, at least with his announcement to the fans. Mike… Well, I’m going to guess he’s under a lot of stress right now. But that is not how he should be handling things.

  9. Velocity was stupid to change a successful formula, but the people threatening Mike Brewer are even stupider. As for Edd China “trashing” the show, it doesn’t appear that he did that…he just said that he was not comfortable with the new producer’s changes and that he’d rather not. If that’s trashing it, then Mike Brewer is being more than a little too sensitive.

  10. Keyboard warriors, seriously why does anyone take any notice of morons with nothing better to do than slag these guys off when they know hardly any facts but get fed lies and 3rd hand half truths and rumours.

  11. Mike’s version paints an uncharacteristic picture of Edd, whereas Mike’s deleted Tweet is exactly what I’d expect from Mr Brewer. Sad the show is moving so far away from its original concept.

If its true that Velocity want to cut back the garage scenes, it begs the question what exactly will Ant Anstead be doing? In fact, given Mike has previously said “I taught Edd everything he knows” why doesn’t Mike just do the (shortened) garage scenes?

  12. Am glad Edd left because it shows it wasn’t just me that hated the way the show went, the show become an English institution then the Americans got there hands on it and spoiled it with all them American cars, and lost what the show was all about, in the beginning it was about fixing affordable cars and turning a small profit then in the end they went like the 100s of other car shows on TV plus Edd and mike started putting more comedy in,and becoming like loral and hardy

  13. Being an “Old Time ” mechanic myself, I totally love Edd’s in depth refurbishment of the vehicles. Mike used to be the funny smart ass of the show, but it was Edd that carried it. Would I watch the new one, NO way! It’s like Top Gear, it is now so peurile, that they have to a seperate show to explain the show???

  14. Hurling insults is unseemly and will do nothing to calm the situation. Ideally, they should have stuck together when challenged about format and agreed a position.

  15. I don’t blame Ed for leaving, in fact, I’m a little surprised that Mike is going along with the changes to the show. I can’t help but think that had they both put up a fight, together, resisting Velocity’s ill advised meddling with the format of the show, they could have had their way. Of course, I’m not in a position to know what has really happened. They have worked together for how long? 13 seasons? Perhaps they have reached that point in time that they need to part ways and do other things, Ed seems to be ready to make a change. Velocity is the real culprit in all of this, after all, they did the show for well over a decade as it was, and it was never exactly a high budget production. No real reason to change it, shouldn’t have been difficult to film. I don’t think we are hearing the real story.

  16. After watching Edd China on Youtube give his reasons for leaving the show , I have to say I don’t blame him. I love how he can handle any car with such expertise, and his tricks of the trade make it so interesting.
If Velocity are going to cut back on that so that it becomes another
” this is the car when we found it , and this is the car all finished ”
Like some other car shows, then they take away the excitement
Of seeing all the problems involved in turning a wreck into a great car.
I personally hope that Edd comes out with a tv show on repairing
Cars with unusual and everyday problems.
As for the new series of wheeler Dealers, we will have to wait and see.

  17. Not sure why you would mess with this shows format. It’s the only one with any technical info.

  18. As far as I am concerned Mike Brewer ruined the show. We watched to see Edd China do his magic!
Brewer and his giddy childish behavior was a total turn off. Would never have watched if Edd wasn’t part of the show

  19. Wheeler dealers was a great show! Edd China is a terrific technician, and I applaud him for not sacrificing quality for quantity. I think it speaks volumes about his integrity. They did make a great team, but that doesn’t mean Mike can’t continue on without him. They are both great in what they do.

  20. No amount of profit is ever enough to satisfy the greed, it’s pathetic. Too bad, I loved this show, it won’t be the same, just like Top Gear is nothing without the original cast.

  21. If edd was asked to do things he wouldnt be proud of, then i would applaud him for leaving. This is called integrity and is something that is getting harder and harder to find.
As far as how he left, well thats something im sure we will never know the details on. But, in the end edd has to do whats right for himself, whether anyone else likes it or not.

  22. I always loved the show & the detailed explanation of the work, I was starting to notice that things had changed when they started doing the shows in the USA & you can tell Edd was not intomit as much… once again Hollywood has turned a good show into corporate advertisement & pissed off a lot of fans

  23. I loved that show, especially the older ones, and I’m as devastated as when I heard Top Gear was ‘changing’. I can be mad about it, but frankly folks, this is THEIR business. It’s their lives and their relationship with details I’m sure we aren’t privy to, so, I’ll say, I’m sorry to hear about this boys and good luck. I’ll also say, I HATE when corporate management starts meddling with a good thing trying to save a buck. Learn where the lines are a-holes, and let the talent do their job. Seems this is happening a lot lately. It’s not Edd’s fault, OR Mike’s. They should both quit, go back to England and start over with a show called ‘Realer Healers’, just for fun! Just my opinion.

    1. The problem is Velocity trying to change an established, winning format. If not for them trying to take an easy way out that would, let’s be honest, make the show boring, this whole situation could be avoided.

    2. Any project Edd is on I am watching. Mike I will not be watching as Edd is the brains and I have learnt from him.

  24. Mike Brewer was always the showman and Edd the expert. Follow the expert and not someone who has an oversized ego. Bet his car showroom sales drop off a bit. Should have both agreed to disagree and keep Shtum. #wheresEdd
