Michael Schumacher’s Old F1 Car Is For Sale

Would you want to own an F1 car that’s been driven by a young Michael Schumacher?

If the answer’s yes then make sure you watch out for the upcoming Bonhams auction at the Spa Classic, where the Benetton B-191-02 will be headlining.

This car made its debut at San Marino GP with Roberto Moreno sat behind the steering wheel. Then, on the fifth race of the season at Montreal, the keys were handed over to Nelson Piquet – three times world champion. The race was won after race leader Nigel Mansell retired from the race after stalling the car on the last lap, which you can watch below. A prime example of why you shouldn’t count your chickens before they’ve hatched!

For the last two races of the season, this car was driven by a Schumacher, this being his first ever season at F1. He raced for Benetton for the rest of the season.

After this season the car was retired and was left to gather dust in a museum until it was restored to as-new condition in 2016. Yes, it’s a running F1 car. Can you imagine people’s faces when you pull this out the back of a truck at a track day?

Bonhams say this car could go for between £640,000 and £810,000 when it goes up for auction on May 21st. Hopefully the lucky person who buys it won’t just leave it collecting dust, but will actually spend some quality time with it on the race track. I just hope they have the money for a change of tyres.

Alex started racing at a young age so certainly knows his way around a car and a track. He can just about put a sentence together too, which helps. He has a great interest in the latest models, but would throw all of his money at a rusty old French classic and a 300ZX. Contact: [email protected]
