Could you imagine Jeremy Clarkson becoming a vegetarian? No? Well, me neither. However, it seems like we don’t have to worry about that anytime soon. The reason for that lies in a little experiment posed by The Sunday Times.

They let the meat-lover Clarkson try the “Impossible Burger”, a meatless burger made entirely from plants and developed by a bioengineering company from Silicon Valley. Clarkson had to tell it from a real burger – and the results were… well, see for yourself.

How “impossible” is the “Impossible Burger”?

To conduct the experiment, Clarkson and a camera team went to one of his favorite restaurants in London. The patty for the “Impossible Burger” had been flown in via plane from Los Angeles – unrefrigerated.

Asking the question “Can Jeremy Clarkson tell the Impossible Burger from a real burger?” puts Clarkson in front of two plates. Each plate has a burger on it with both burgers looking exactly the same. But one was made with a meaty patty, the other one wasn’t.

First of all, Clarkson says his taste buds might not do the trick anymore – hence to his 40 years of heavy smoking. Anyway, he takes a bite from each of the burgers. Finally, after trying both, he concludes that the second burger “tastes different”, like “psycho beef” and therefore must be the fake one.

As it turns out, Clarkson is right. His tastes buds didn’t betray him. Triumphantly he proclaims: “Beef farmers of the world, relax”. While he deems that there “is nothing wrong” with the meatless burger, he also states that vegetarians should stay eating vegetables. “You can’t say ‘I want my vegetables to look like meat'”, Clarkson concludes.
