James May’s 1972 Rolls Royce Corniche is For Sale

If you have ever wanted a Rolls Royce Corniche that you can buy for dirt cheap and that was owned by someone that you knew took great care of it, then my friends, I have just thing for you. For those of you who are a part of DriveTribe, look no further than James May’s post from yesterday.

Let’s all take a trip back to Top Gear Series 11, Episode 5 where Jeremy and James partook in a happening where each would buy a classic car for “Mondeo money.” The Ford Mondeo, for those that are unaware, is essentially what the Ford Fusion in here in the States. In the episode, James went out with £25,000 and snagged himself a 1972 Rolls Royce Corniche.

While James says the best car that you can buy for Mondeo money is an actual Mondeo, he certainly did like his Corniche…at least at first. In the episode, he had tons of good things to say about the Corniche, but now, it appears he is selling it because, and I quote: “I’ve become allergic to it. And I mean this. If I drive it for more than half an hour I start itching, and then have to boil all my clothes.” I assume he means the interior, which I actually quite like:

It’s the perfect amount of 70s gaudiness, isn’t it? If this is your sort of thing and you’re going to find yourself at Goodwood on March 19th, maybe try your luck at Captain Slow’s very own Rolls. I tried to list the auction for you good folks, but it appears the people who run Bonhams do not have it listed yet. I tried.
